A religious scholar on Tuesday said that army ransacked his house and damaged his library in Sallar village of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a charge denied by the army.
Maulana Altaf Hussain Nadvi who is a noted columnist and preacher at Jamia Masjid Srigufwara said that army men raided his residence today morning and ransacked the property, including his library.
He said that army men abused him during the raid.
SHO Police Station Srigufwara, Peerzada Atiq, confirmed that army has conducted searches in the area.
However, Atiq said that the army didn’t only search Nadvi’s house.
Army has denied the charge.
“Army personnel have neither ransacked the house nor damaged any property. The photos (of the ransacking) are self-explanatory,” said Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia.
